Doctor Faustus: Prologue Task

The choral introduction is linked to the traditional Greek Tragedy. It usually consists of a group, but can be only one person as it is in Faustus. Traditionally the chorus will comment on the action and what is to come in the play and this chorus is no different, giving information on his background and that a high will lead to a downfall; “form of Faustus’ fortunes” . The way the chorus introduces Faustus is significant because it is reflective of renaissance values. The focus during this period was on humankind rather than God. The chorus is insistent that the play will focus on Renaissance rather than the traditional protagonist plot lines of idols and Kings. Rather, the story will follow the life of an ordinary man from a humble background because his story has the same worth as any story of idols or Kings.
